Sometimes chiropractic produces quick results. Sometimes it doesn't. And there’s no way of knowing in advance.

So you have a patient expectation management obligation. This 8-page handout does all the heavy lifting for you!

The Brochure That Sets Appropriate Patient Expectations

For a generation of patients that has come to expect the fast, fast relief of "plop-plop-fizz-fizz," setting realistic expectations for the speed of their recovery is essential.

Have your staff present a copy to each patient as they arrive on their third visit. As their care takes on a routine that will be repeated on future visits, use this occasion to outline realistic expectations of their chiropractic care.

"Dr. Jones would like you to review this before your visit today so she can answer any questions you may have," your front desk CA smiles, handing the brochure to the patient.

Patients learn that everyone heals at his or her own pace. And that their recovery is based on keeping their visits and reveals what they're willing to do at home between visits to support their care.

If you prefer, mail a copy to your newest patients with a simple cover letter outlining suggested home care procedures that can help speed their recovery. Either way, make sure every patient understands that they're the ones doing the healing—not you.

How Long Will It Take?

YOU'RE THE DOCTOR

It surprises people to learn that drugs and doctors don't heal. They can't form scar tissue, mend a broken bone or heal a cut. Only you can do that! So, our approach is to reduce interferences to your ability to heal. Since healing is directed by your nervous system, that is our focus.

How long it will take? Children, often see results quickly. Adults and the elderly with long-standing problems take longer. Everyone responds differently.

Because you're the doctor!

REMEMBER

Your care schedule is based on the results that millions have enjoyed.

If we don't see you frequently enough, correcting negative patterns in your spine will be slow going. And if visits are scheduled too closely together, your body may still be processing the care you received during your previous visit.

So, we take a middle path. Our advice is designed to produce the best results in the shortest amount of time.

That's why keeping your appointments is so important.

FOLLOW OUR SUGGESTIONS

Chiropractic care, unlike medical treatment, is a partnership. Without your participation it will take longer and your results tend to be short-lived.

What you do at home and at work have as much (or more) effect on your recovery than what we do, while you're in our practice.

So, ask questions and participate in your care. Those who do seem to get well faster. Find out what you can do to support the care you receive when you're with us.

THE LIMITATIONS OF MATTER

We humans can't grow a new leg or replace a finger lost in an accident. We have limitations on our ability to heal. Our prospects worsen if we're overweight, use tobacco, abuse alcohol or live especially stressful lives.

Since your nervous system controls every tissue of your body, chiropractic care has been known to produce profound results. Our intention is to bring greater integrity to your nervous system. But, it takes time.

We're optimistic and you should be too!

TIME

It's easy to become impatient if you're accustomed to "fast, fast relief" by taking a pill that simply fools your body so it can't sense pain. True healing moves at its own pace.

By now you know many things affect this process. A fact often forgotten in our one-size-fits-all-instant-on-just-add-water-microwave world!

If your recovery doesn't progress as we expect, we'll change our approach. Or, we'll refer you to someone else. You and your health are our primary concern.

(Page 7)

RELAPSE

Most symptoms subside long before muscles and ligaments supporting your spine have fully healed. That's when it will be tempting to end your care. Careful! This weakened area of your spine predisposes you to a relapse.

Just as regular brushing and flossing promote dental health, we recommend periodic spinal checkups. Sure, you'll be feeling great, but these visits help catch new problems early and support you in your desire to be your best.

Use chiropractic to help you stay well after you get well.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

THAT DEPENDS ON SEVERAL THINGS:

YOUR AGE. Our healing potential diminishes with age. There are exceptions, but generally children and young adults see quicker results.

YOUR PROBLEM. It takes longer to resolve long-standing problems that have been neglected. More recent health problems tend to resolve faster.

YOUR DISCIPLINE. Are you willing to form some new health habits? If you're coachable, and follow our suggestions, you'll see better results.

YOUR GOAL. Your intentions are just as important as ours. Our motive is to support you in attaining optimum health. Is that what you want?

YOUR ATTITUDE. It's been proven that those with a positive outlook heal faster. As your nervous system works better, anything is possible!
