How Far Implementation

How to Use the How Far Chart and Patient Handout

How Far Chart and Handout.jpgMost patients enter your practice with two unhelpful beliefs that this wall chart and patient handout are designed to reframe:

1. Many are fearful that they will be pressured into lifetime care, and
2. That when their symptoms resolve they will be permanently fixed.

These common perceptions often produce a reluctance to fully engage. Or later, in the highly likely event their symptoms return, observe, “I tried chiropractic but it didn’t work.”

Use this graphic, which introduces the five ways to use chiropractic, to address both of these concerns.

At your consultation or report you might make the following observation:

“Have you ever heard the old myth, that ‘once you go to a chiropractor you have to go for the rest of your life?’

“It’s not true. How long you decide to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you.

“I use this graphic to explain the five ways our patients use chiropractic care.

[Referring to the base of the pyramid]

“Most of our patients start with relief care. Thankfully, resolving symptoms is pretty routine around here. But if you stop care as soon as you feel better, before muscles and soft tissues are fully retrained, you can invite a return of your original problem.

[Referring to the Correction segment]

“After a relapse or two, many see the wisdom of continuing with corrective care. With their symptoms largely gone, continued care helps stabilize and strengthen the spine. Like a regular exercise program, our objective is to create healthier spinal patterns.

[Referring to the Maintenance segment]

“Maintenance care is exactly what it sounds like. Regular chiropractic checkups help maintain your progress and avoid a relapse. The frequency of your visits is based on your age, condition and the stresses in your life.

[Referring to the Prevention segment]

“Preventative care may feature the same visit frequency, but the intent is to catch new problems early. This can reduce the severity and duration of flare-ups.

[Referring to the Wellness segment]

“At the top of the pyramid is wellness care. It’s for those who want to optimize their health and well-being and be their best. They see us when they’re feeling great—because they want to stay that way.

“The higher up you go, or role tends to decrease as you take on greater responsibility to advance better health, such as improving your nutrition, exercise, sleep, and other healthy habits.

“You don’t have to decide now but be thinking about how you’ll want to use chiropractic to reach your health goals.”
