Monday Morning Motivation | Addition Without Subtraction

A common belief is that we need to do more. More this. More that. Every seminar produces another “to do” list.

New stuff gets piled onto old stuff. Like the strata of fossilized remains, many procedures have been laid down, layer upon layer, adding complexity to what is a simple business.

Some common symptoms of addition without subtraction:

Too many steps
Too many forms
Too many policies
Too many notes
Too many words
Too many hours
Too many excuses
Too many procedures
Too many tolerations
Too many expectations
Too many contradictions
Too many exceptions to the rule
Too many missed opportunities

Consider this a reminder to simplify. Eliminate the superfluous. Rethink the necessity of every task. Is it required? Does it produce a return on your investment of time and energy? Does it create needless friction? Is it still relevant?

Does it advance your purpose—or is it merely theater?
