Monday Morning Motivation | High and Noble Purpose

Many chiropractors have accepted two unhelpful ways of thinking about their purpose.

The first is thinking their purpose is to adjust.

But adjusting is merely a way to advance, promote, or manifest your purpose. It’s a means, not an end in itself. It can be seductive because expertly moving bones, reducing nerve interference, and reviving a patient’s healing potential can produce a great deal of personal satisfaction. And patient appreciation.

The second misconception is related: adjusting as many people as possible.

Of course, you’ll want to be a responsible steward of your time and talent. But deriving your self-worth by your productivity or patient volume is a recipe for frustration, leading to anger, producing burnout, and eventually emotional distancing and disengagement.

More likely, your purpose is in some way connected to reducing suffering, creating hope, inspiring others, or unleashing the life force.

A high and noble purpose is never selfish.
