"You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want." Zig Ziglar
It's easy to blur the difference between needs and wants. After completing your examination, you'll know exactly what they need. But is it what they want?
Patients need to upgrade their lifestyle. But many want pain relief so they can get back to life as it was before. Sure, recommend the care they need – but don't become angry when they want something far less.
Need is linked to necessity. Want to desire.
It's so tempting to project the desire we place on good health and well-being onto others. It's a recipe for disappointment, frustration and eventually resentment.
You know what patients need, but what do they desire? Do you know? Ask. You may need to coax it from them, inspiring them to dream again. As they do, so can you.
