A way to turn routine, transactional adjustments into referral-generating transformational patient visits is to deliver “the adjustment with that extra something” that B.J. talked about.

Which requires the complete integration of your head, hands, and heart.

Head – This is about keen observational skills, noticing subtle changes in posture, muscle tension, the patient’s overall tone, and much more. Things that I, as a non-DC, can’t even begin to fully appreciate.

Hands – This is about delivering the appropriate energy, thrust, or attention at the right time, place, and direction with the intent of reducing nervous system interference. The objective is to revive the capacity of the patient’s body to function more resourcefully.

Heart – This element is the easiest to avoid, overlook, or withhold. It requires the expenditure of emotional labor necessary to surrender to the moment and be 100% present. It was Dr. James Parker who declared “Loving service is my first technique.”
