On Monday mornings do you have to, want to or get to go to the practice?
Have to. This is often due to something or someone compelling us to act. Are there expectations be fulfilled? Being saddled with high levels of personal debt falls into this category. As does the misplaced belief that we have no other choices.
Want to. This is a sign of emotional engagement. We bring our problem-solving skills to bear and a deep commitment to outcomes. But remember, you can’t help someone who doesn’t want it. Be sure to observe fastidious boundaries, avoiding wanting it more than they do.
Get to. What an honor to partner with patients. Not only are you in a position of trust, you get to witness the countless possibilities that come with restoring nervous system integrity. The reverberations touch everything your patients do and everyone they know.
Wow, what a privilege!
