Monday Morning Motivation | Creating Wellness Patients
Posted by Bill Esteb on Sep 5th 2026
Are wellness patients born or created?
It’s the classic nature/nurture debate.
Here are some of the elements that influence the likelihood of a patient embracing some type of nonsymptomatic care:
Values – Does the individual prioritize health sufficiently to allocate time and resources?
Self-esteem – Simply put, does the patient value themselves sufficiently to commit resources in the pursuit of better health?
Body awareness – Is the individual in touch with their body sufficiently to recognize—and act on—subtle cues?
Future casting – Is the person willing to make investments whose potential payoff lies in the future? In other words, do they tend to be spenders or savers?
Flossing – While not perfect, one’s oral health practices are a helpful proxy. Don’t expect non-flossers to embrace nonsymptomatic chiropractic care.
Can a compelling patient education curriculum or spellbinding report of findings inspire patients to embrace wellness care?
Maybe.
But not as often as you’d think.
