Monday Morning Motivation | Coasting

Most of our behaviors are habituated.

We find reassurance in mindless rituals and familiar routines. The groove feels safe. We don’t notice it’s become a rut, trapping us in a predictable more of the same.

It often shows up as a slow, almost imperceptible erosion in the numbers. We’re merely going through the motions, not fully emotionally invested. Phoning it in. Worse is when it’s accompanied by the off-putting stink of entitlement.

The only way to coast is to go downhill.

The practice stops growing because we’ve stopped growing. In many subtle ways we’ve switched from playing offense to defense. Rather than risk an uncertain future, we decide to protect what we have.

Often, we don’t even realize we’re doing it.

Early detection can avoid this loss of momentum. Only when we place ourselves in circumstances in which we lack competence can we break the trance.

Are you brave enough?
