Here's a way to think about the various symptoms which prompt patients to seek chiropractic care: symptoms are a language used by the body to communicate with its owner.

It's a crude language to be sure. It could be pain that is sharp, dull, stabbing or throbbing. It could be a language that comes and goes or is constant. However, the key distinction is how loud are the utterances? Are patients inclined to heed the quietest whisper? Or must their body shout?

"So, tell me," you ask your next patient, "what do you think your body is trying to tell you?"

Since most patients think their problem is the pain and not the underlying cause of their pain, this conversation could produce a shift in their understanding. Especially when you announce that you won't be treating their pain! Helping patients know their body is the access to long term supportive care
