There are several obvious ways to encourage patients to opt-in to ChiroHealthTips.
At the Front Desk
Enroll patients at the front desk as they are checking out at the end of their first or second visit.
Your front desk CA could introduce it this way, supplying your unique new patient keyword:
“As part of your care, the doctor would like to text you some tips along the way to help you get well faster. If your phone is handy, let's get you started. The number you need to text to is 474747. Then send the word [word], a space and the number [number].”
“To help you save money, get well faster and avoid a relapse, the doctor would like to text you some tips during the course of your care. Let’s get you signed up now. The number you need to text to is 474747. Then send the word [word], a space and the number [number].”
In both instances it’s important to 1) assume the attitude that ‘this is how we do things around here,’ and 2) mention the benefits they receive by enrolling.
If patients have entered the keyword and number correctly they should get an almost instant confirmation that they have successfully subscribed. Their first message will then arrive one minute later.
You may want to record their phone number and the date of enrollment in the patient’s file.
At the Report of Findings
Towards the end of a patient’s report of findings, perhaps in conjunction with any home care procedures you’ll be recommending, introduce ChiroHealthTips and encourage them to enroll on the spot:
“Also as part of your care, I like to text my new patients tips on how to get well faster and what they can expect along the way. How about we do that now? If your phone is handy, let’s get you signed up for our ChiroHealthTips program. The number you need to text to is 474747. Then send the word [word], a space and the number [number].”
