Monday Morning Motivation | Satisfied

A Moment of Clarity from March 20, 2006:
“I need some motivation.”
If you lack motivation, you might be looking for it in the wrong place. Lasting motivation can’t be acquired from seminars, webinars, or even weekly emails.
Because most outside-in solutions rarely last. That’s why the uptick from a “motivational” seminar is temporary at best.
Satisfaction kills motivation.
If you no longer get to the practice early, if you lack energy, if you’re merely phoning it in, then it’s likely you’re satisfied with the status quo.
“But I don’t like things as they are!”
Sure, you do.
It’s safe. Predictable. Comfortable. And requires little emotional risk. Oh, it may be less than ideal, but it’s not bad enough to risk taking a chance with something new or different.
It first must get much worse. This is what creates the roller-coaster statistics of so many practices.
It’s why patients start and then discontinue care. Like you, they’re satisfied.
