The 3rd most commonly mentioned new patient complaint: getting the name wrong.

Getting someone’s name correct is crucial. It’s how we communicate respect, significance, and acceptance.

A sampling of actual patient survey responses:

“Just change my name to Antonio.”
“My name is Jane, not Judy.”
“My name has been spelt incorrectly.”
“My name is spelled: Cheryl.”
“My first name is Joan, not Jean.”
“My last name had 2 typos!”
“My name is Susan (emails say Sandra).”
“My last name is Macleod, you have it Macload.”
“Please correct the spelling of my first name. It’s spelled Kimberley, not Kimberly.”
“Correct first name is Christine, not Christina.”
“My name is Donnie, not Donna.”
“My name is Rod not Ron.”
“My name is Orland not Orlando.”
“My name is Linda, not Lisa.”

Dale Carnegie observed, “Remember that a person’s name, is to that person, the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”
